My research focuses on Blockchain, NFTs, and their social potential, particularly in the brazilian context.
As a master's student in the Digital Artifacts Design program at UFPE, I explore how DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) can be used in collaborative environments, aiming to facilitate the entry of new users into the ecosystem. My work also investigates the accessibility of Web 3.0, analyzing the conditions for technology access and education in my country.
My master's research was funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) through the MAI/DAI Program.

Exploring the potential of NFTs and metaverses can make them tools for cultural preservation and social sustainability in Brazil. This article provides an overview of the recent evolution of the metaverse and the adoption of these technologies by Brazilian communities. The main focus of this study is on the involvement and inclusion of Indigenous peoples in this technological sphere, emphasizing the importance of ensuring respect and preservation of forest peoples when including them in NFT projects. Several existing solutions that can facilitate social initiatives are exemplified, and one such solution is the 3.land marketplace/metaverse, which holds great potential for social actions due to its community-driven dynamics and 3D education promotion. The article concludes by suggesting possible directions to enhance technological development for Brazil’s Indigenous communities, promoting the appreciation and protection of cultural expressions from the forests through blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies.

This paper explores the multifaceted landscape of Non-Fungible Tokens beyond their role in digitizing artworks. It delves into the intersection of art, utility, and cultural preservation within the NFT realm. The discussion revolves around the duality of “art for art’s sake” and functional utility, sparking ongoing debates about the essence of art in both the analog and digital realms. The convergence of contemporary aesthetics with practical token utility challenges conventional definitions, offering an alternative to narrative retrieval and contributing to cultural preservation in the virtual sphere. As one enters the NFT ecosystem, a utopian quest for autonomy in healthy production becomes evident, albeit not without formidable obstacles. The paper examines the promise of NFTs to liberate creators from intermediary control and the entwined complexities accompanying their evolution. It sheds light on the cautious and ethical approach required for the mass adoption of these technologies, contrasting this with the current global context characterized by rampant consumerism, individualism, and the relentless pursuit of easy financial gains.

Events

WebMedia 2024
My participation during 30th Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and Web Systems.
I taught a mini-course summarizing the content of the 4 theoretical classes of the project "Computadores Fazem Arte", published as a book chapter by the symposium. The topics covered were the concept, history, structure and security of blockchain technology, the concept and specificities of NFTs and their communities.
To illustrate, I made an NFT during the activity of the photo we took together, available on the Solana network via 3.land platform, sent exclusively to students who created a crypto wallet during the activity.
Web3PE #1
On August 23, 2024, the first edition of WEB3PE was held, promoted by Web3EduBrasil and Stellar Brazil with support from Voxar Labs and NFT Brasil. I gave an introductory class on Blockchain and NFTs. The main objective of this event was to spark the interest of students at the UFPE computer science center and the general public to enter this universe.

SVR 2024
I participated in the WTD - Workshop of Theses and Dissertations of the 26th Symposium on Virtual and Augmented Reality, presenting the progress of my master's research.
