Computadores
Fazem Arte.

"Computers Make Art" — the visual identity and teaching material I built for my master's research: a free, art-rooted introduction to blockchain, NFTs, and Web3, made for the people this field usually leaves out.

OVERVIEW

Warm tech,
not cold chains.

Web3 and NFTs are usually dressed in cold, futuristic, exclusionary visuals. This project does the opposite. The design is a core part of the pedagogy — an intentionally warm, organic, colorful language that treats technology with artistic sensibility and a social lens, making blockchain approachable for a genuinely diverse audience.

01 · IDENTITY

The visual system.

A hand-drawn wordmark and a palette of fluorescent pink, lime yellow, and deep purple — the same chromatic register that runs through my own artwork. Organic blobs, expressive lettering, and generous breathing room build a friendly, unmistakable brand that stands apart from the usual crypto aesthetic.

02 · GRAPHIC MATERIAL

Teaching, designed.

The didactic material spans three formats — a manual, a set of lecture slides, and a handmade seed-phrase notebook — each carrying the same warm language and avoiding dense, monotonous visual codes.

The manual & its illustrations

Illustration · Infographics · Layout

Custom diagrams turn abstract concepts — how a blockchain transaction works, the generations of the web, consensus, metadata, seed phrases — into concrete, relatable pictures. Simple infographics do the pedagogical heavy lifting.

The seed-phrase notebook

Editorial · Handmade · Product

A compact "Caderno-Cofre" hand-bound by the Lich Bookbinder atelier, made to store crypto passwords and seed phrases offline. The cover carries the project's palette; the interior splits neatly between login fields and 24 numbered seed lines. Distributed free to students.

03 · COMMUNICATION

Out in the feed.

Social posts and event art that carried the identity into recruitment and outreach — for the free course, its open lectures, and academic appearances like the WebMedia 2024 minicourse.

04 · IN PRACTICE

From page
to classroom.

The material was tested and refined across two main runs — an undergraduate research group, then the free Computadores Fazem Arte course centered on women, LGBTQIA+, Indigenous, Black, and peripheral communities — plus talks and workshops in Brazil, Thailand, and beyond.

In-person class of the course

Made with the community

Built alongside activist-educators Débora Aguiar and Manu Marques, the course paired blockchain fundamentals with lessons on decoloniality and financial education — and brought in trans, Black, and non-binary NFT artists to make the field feel close, not distant.

Jun 2023 — Mar 2024
Pilot classes
Seven experimental sessions — from a graffiti mutirão with VR headsets to design-school lectures — testing pedagogy and shaping the material before it existed as a finished object.
Mar — Aug 2024
Scientific initiation
Three undergraduates from Computer Science, Design, and Pedagogy validated the material, 3D-scanned paper sculptures, and minted their own NFTs on 3.land — later co-authoring a paper at XR4EDU / IMX 2025.
Jul — Sep 2024
The free course
33 applications, eight in-person lessons, meals and printed material provided. A warmly received introduction to Web3 with critical debate at its center.
2024 — 2025
Beyond the classroom
The material travelled: WebMedia 2024 minicourse, NFT Brasil at the São Paulo Biennial, IslandDAO in Koh Samui (Thailand), and an intensive at UFSJ — each adapting the same visual system.

Design here is not decoration — it is mediation. A warmer, more organic language became the bridge between complex technology and the people it too often excludes.
